How Gambling Companies Can Make a Positive Impact Through Charitable Work

The gambling industry is one of the biggest and fastest growing ones in the world. This applies especially to the online branch, where new online casinos and game developers pop up all the time. There is clearly a lot of money to be made in this sector, and everyone’s looking to get involved.

Of course, the gambling branch isn’t what you’d call the most productive of industries, and it’s often come under fire as being predatory and taking advantage of people. Casinos will never completely get rid of this image no matter what, but they can at least remedy the situation somewhat by getting involved more with charitable work.

Recent trends in the Kiwi online casino industry, as well as in other parts of the world, has been the positive one. There is a growing number of gaming companies that set aside a part of their profits to help valiant charitable efforts, and it’s the kind of trend we like to see.

Gambling Companies Supporting Charity

In the past, some gambling companies have been accused of giving “insulting” amounts to charities, especially to charities that deal directly with helping people with gambling problems. Luckily, in recent years, things are looking much better on this front.

Last year, for example, five of the biggest members of the UK Betting and Gambling Council have pledged to donate £100 million to GambleAware, a non-profit organization that aims to help people with gaming issues. While it may not be a huge amount for the group, which consists of brands like Sky, Betfair, and PaddyPower, it’s at the very least a step in the right direction.

Then there is the case of Erik Bergman, the founder of Catena Media, one of the largest companies in the online gambling space, who founded a whole new company that donates 100% of its proceeds to worthwhile charities.

There are also smaller sites in this niche that provide their contribution. One of the shining examples is Casinoreviews.net.nz, which gives away a share of its profit to charities. This is an online casino review site that focuses predominantly on players from New Zealand.

A Positive Trend With Great Potential

While the gambling industry doesn’t enjoy a great image in the world, it’s here to stay – that much is for certain. And, as a type of entertainment, it certainly has its place, despite the dangers that it brings with.

So, seeing the iGaming sector turn more towards charities is probably the best development we could expect. It’s no secret that some of these companies are making huge profits and they can definitely afford to give away some of it and help make the world a better place.

We could argue that they’re only doing it for marketing reasons or because they’re legally obliged to do so, but that’s beside the point. Their contributions will help make some worthwhile goals come true and improve some people’s lives. Whatever their motivation may be, they’ll end up making the world a little bit better place to live in, and that can only be a positive thing!
