Founded in 1998 by Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr., The Harris Foundation, Inc. (THF) is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization based in Houston, Texas whose mission is to invest in community-based initiatives to support education, health and wealth. THF supports programs that empower individuals, in particular minorities and others who are economically and/or socially disadvantaged, to recognize their potential and pursue their dreams. Through our interactive STEM education, health and wealth programs, we prepare students and communities for a world of infinite possibilities.
By utilizing positive role models to raise student achievement and increase life success, we work hands-on in communities promoting six principles:
- Encouraging education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics
- Motivating youth to stay in school
- Fostering youth leadership and citizenship
- Instilling the values of responsibility, fairness and respect
- Promoting optimum health
- Building financial skills
The Education Mission of the Harris Foundation is to enable youth to develop and achieve their full potential through the support of educational programs, particularly STEM.
The Health Mission of the Harris Foundation is to create and implement strategies/programs for wellness, fitness and health.
Finally, the Wealth Mission of the Harris Foundation is to enhance the financial intelligence (FIQ) of communities starting with the individuals and their families by educating people of the basics of finance to meet their and the communities’ economic needs.
The Harris Foundation believes that by focusing on these three areas, students can be prepared now for the careers of the future through structured programs that utilize positive role models in these three key areas. The Foundation has worked closely with its partners to inspire and motivate students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and to ensure a pipeline of people that are prepared to meet the requirements of the nation.
